Breast/bodyfeeding for Birthworkers with Simply Nourish IBCLC

$150-175
MARCH 26 2023 | Sunday | 1:30pm-4:30pm

This class has been specially designed for birthworkers to better support their clients in their bodyfeeding goals. 

In this three hour course, you will learn:
  • What is beneficial to share in prenatal visits. What questions to ask and how to relearn our listening skills to improve these conversations  
  • Antenatal hand expression: the why and how 
  • First 2 hours: initiating latch and supportive feeding environments- how to get off on the right foot
  • Informed feeding and consent 
  • Supply and Demand principals
  • What are signs of a correct and effective latch with good milk transfer?
  • When to refer to a IBCLC prenatally and postpartum
  • Engorgement prevention and management. As well as Basic nipple care.  
  • Debunking myths (foods to consume or avoid, alcohol use, feeding schedules, sleep expectations) 
  • Breast compressions. Demo/why we need to utilize
  • Bottle choices and paced feeding

​We are located at 205 - 12165 Harris Road, Pitt Meadows. Please note, our office is on the second floor and only accessible by stairs. If driving, keep your stroller in your car. If taking public transit, you may park your stroller in the entryway however we are not liable for any damage or loss that may be incurred if left.

Katy Teasdale, IBCLC, RN

Katy is a lactation consultant, mentor, educator and perinatal/NICU RN.  She also own and manages an inclusive private practice; Simply Nourish located in Maple Ridge BC. She offers home and office appointments in Vancouver and Fraser Valley. Katy specializes in helping families with complex feeding situations. She is passionate about offering trauma-informed, client centred care to every family. This means that the clients goals are always the focus. Her vision is to offer information and tools to providers to build a community of comprehensive, consistent messaging birth workers who have a strong ability to offer individualized care for all families in the perinatal period.
Outside of work, Katy enjoys live music, staying active and spending time with her husband and two very active children.
